About us
Harewood is an independent charitable educational trust set up to maintain and develop Harewood, its collections and grounds, for the public benefit. Enjoy England's Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2020. Harewood attracts over 250,000 visitors per annum and is a major venue for weddings, conferences and corporate hospitality. The House, one of the treasure houses of England, was built in the mid-18th century and has magnificent interiors by Robert Adam, furniture by Thomas Chippendale and paintings by JMW Turner, Reynolds, Titian and El Greco, among others. An Italianate Terrace, designed by Sir Charles Barry, stretches along the South Front of the House and provides stunning views of Lancelot 'Capability' Brown's landscape and lake. The collection of paintings, furniture and porcelain is as fine as any in the land, and the setting is Yorkshire’s most beautiful landscape.

This week the Events Team went a little further afield for a filming recce at one of Harewood's lesser-known filming locations. 📽 A hidden gem on the wider Harewood estate, Stockton Grange Farm is a firm favourite location for the Events Team. It can be spotted in the recently released 'Nandor and the Talking Mongoose'. (Talking mongoose not included with hire).

Reimagining Access at Harewood This week we were delighted to host a Design Team Meeting and a Focus Group, both dedicated to Access for our Reimagining Harewood project. We were able to share updated designs for the new visitor and interpretation centre in the Bakehouse and talk through wider plans for new gardens to the South and West of Harewood House and our adventure play area. Our guests all had lived experience which is vital to going beyond the legislation and really getting to the detail of user experience. We were joined by guests who could share their experience of visiting heritage attractions with visual and hearing impairments, with physical impairments and who were representing the Stoma-users community and the older community. We learned an enormous amount which will feed into our plans and we are incredibly grateful to all those people who joined us to share their thoughts and experience with enthusiasm and understanding. We are particularly grateful to David Burdus and Alan Mathews of Burdus Associates who did such a great job in leading the session. Lots of work to do but it was wonderful to hear how positive our guests were about progress so far!
