'The journey toward becoming an effective leader begins with introspection and self-awareness'. Easy said and acceptable Gavin, however, self awareness is derived by being aware of Self, however this comes with Self Bias. I have a grasp of self awareness but is it accurate, or just my perspective?

"Leadership is not about being liked; it's about being respected." This statement emphasizes several important aspects of effective leadership: Respect: True leadership is built on the foundation of respect, earned through competence, integrity, and ethical decision-making. Authenticity: Leaders prioritize authenticity over seeking popularity. They act in alignment with their values and principles, even when it's challenging. Accountability: Effective leaders are willing to make tough decisions and take responsibility for their actions, regardless of whether those decisions are well-liked. Long-Term Goals: Leadership often involves making decisions that serve the long-term goals and interests of the organization, sometimes at the expense of short-term popularity. Trust: Being respected as a leader leads to trust among team members, which is crucial for building a cohesive and productive team. Balancing Act: While being liked can foster positive working relationships, leaders must strike a balance between maintaining positive rapport and making decisions that are in the organization's best interests. In essence, this statement highlights that effective leadership is not about seeking approval for personal popularity; it's about making sound decisions, acting with integrity, and earning the respect and trust of those you lead. I'm often asked, "what are the behavorial traits of an ideal leader?" The answer I always give, is that it's not so simple. I've worked with highly successful leaders across many different industries, functions and levels within organizations, and there is no one-size-fits-all portrait of a great leader. Some are more people-focused while others are more focused on vision and inspiration. Because of its nature, the kind of leadership needed for systems change is quite different from our traditional conception. We tend to think of leadership as a position at the top of an organization that comes with the authority to make decisions and have those executed by others. However, systems change is about leading across boundaries, meaning you will be leading with very little authority and possibly a role that provides only minimal influence in and of itself. This is leadership as a verb, not a noun. It is what we do, not the position we hold that gives us influence. Change has to start somewhere. Someone has to start the work of bringing the new possibilities in the system together, at the beginning, this is the work of the leaders. The leaders are the ones who step across the line, create a new space and are prepared to resist the forces that will be inevitably directed at them for challenging and threatening the existing system. Leaders illustrate how, what is, is not the only possible way that things could be, this both inspires people but also threatens the existing regime. Change often starts with undesirable conditions, but creative system leaders help people move beyond just reacting to these problems to building positive visions for the future. This typically happens gradually as leaders help people express their deeper aspirations, build a shared language, form connections, and build trust based on tangible accomplishments realized together. At the helm of every great voyage is a captain whose compass is faithfulness and whose anchor is trust; such is the essence of true leadership. . . . In leadership, faithfulness and trust are foundational virtues that underpin the integrity and efficacy of a leader. 🌟Faithfulness in Leadership: Faithfulness is the steadfast adherence to a person, cause, or belief, demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support. For a leader, this translates into a consistent commitment to their vision and values, regardless of changing circumstances or challenges. A faithful leader is one who remains reliable, dependable, and unwavering in their dedication to their responsibilities and to the people they serve. Key aspects of faithfulness in leadership include: Consistency: Being consistent in actions and decisions, which builds credibility and stability within an organization. Loyalty: Showing firm allegiance to the mission and values of the organization and to its people. Integrity: Upholding ethical standards and being truthful, which fosters a culture of trust and honor. Perseverance: Demonstrating resilience and the willingness to see commitments through to completion. 🌟Trust in Leadership: Trust is the firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. In a leadership context, trust is the confidence that a leader will act in the best interests of their followers and the organization. It is both earned and given, forming the basis of all functional relationships within a leadership framework. For a leader to be trusted, they must exhibit: Transparency: Being open and clear about processes, decisions, and communication. Competence: Having the necessary ability and knowledge to lead effectively. Consistency: Acting predictably and reliably, which allows people to feel secure in their expectations. Fairness: Treating everyone with equity and justice, making decisions without favoritism or prejudice. When faithfulness and trust converge in leadership, they create an environment where teams feel secure, morale is high, and organizational goals are achieved more effectively. Leadership is a tireless job and sometimes thankless, too just as teaching and training though there is a thin line of difference between these professions. No matter how high the salaries are, “leaders don’t get paid in cash.” The best of leaders know and resonate with what Bob Dylan meant when he wrote: “You’ll find out when you reach the top, you’re on the bottom. “ The best leaders work much harder for those they lead than those on the team who work for the leader. To make matters more vexing, when employed with assurance, great leadership is invisible. The better you get at leading others, the more it looks like you are unnecessary. The fruits of skillful leadership are enjoyed by others without awareness that the leader did much. The point is this: If you lead for the acclaim, recognition, notoriety, acknowledgment, or even thanks, you’re likely to be deeply disappointed. Leaders don’t get paid in cash. Instead, leaders get paid in respect, trust, admiration, loyalty, followership and results. True leaders lead because they want to make people and situations better. Leadership is an unspeakable privilege. To positively influence the lives of others through leadership is nearly divine. Nothing else compares. So, the next time you are offered that hefty compensation as a new leader, remember that the biggest components of your emolument are ADMIRATION, PRAISE, LOVE and RESPECT. Discovering Your Leadership Style: What is Leadership Effectiveness? "Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked. Leadership is defined by results, not attributes." — Peter Drucker What makes a good leader different from a bad leader?” From the definition of leadership, we can see that it is the skill of establishing an inspiring vision of the future, then encouraging, leading, and accompanying others to fulfill that vision. The ability to generate actual outcomes and bring the vision to life would distinguish a good leader from an incompetent one. Moreover, their capacity to propel achievements will be heavily influenced by the leadership styles they employ. But be careful because the leadership styles I’m about to convey to you apply first and foremost to the leadership that is exercised over those over whom one has formal power, in other words, one’s collaborators. Leadership can be conducted with those over whom one has no direct power. For instance, a leader in a cross-functional role (such as project management) needs to inspire, motivate, lead, and support his/her colleagues to achieve his/her objectives. Recent studies show that vulnerability in leadership builds trust, inspires loyalty, and drives innovation – essential leadership qualities. The vulnerability allows leaders to move past defensive behaviors such as shaming and blaming and take risks in pursuing their goals.
