Donald Trump now says he'll debate Harris on Sept. 10

Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are on track to have their first debate after all.

The former president and GOP nominee posted on Truth Social on Tuesday afternoon that the pair will go head to head on Sept. 10 in a live debate hosted by ABC News. The pair had agreed on the date and host network, but Trump cast doubt over the weekend whether the debate would occur after all.

"Why would I do the Debate against Kamala Harris on that network?" Trump asked in a Truth Social post Sunday, criticizing Jonathan Karl’s interview with Tom Cotton on ABC’s “This Week” as well as the show’s panel of commentators.

Trump continued to criticize the network Tuesday as "the nastiest and most unfair newscaster in the business" while saying he would appear on their broadcast in two weeks.

He also noted that the rules of the debate would be the same as the June debate between Trump and President Joe Biden on CNN, seemingly putting to bed disagreement between the two candidates' campaigns.

Trump campaign senior aide Jason Miller said in a statement Monday that the Democratic and Republican camps had disagreed on rules of the event, including seating, use of notes and other factors.

Harris' campaign denied that, but senior adviser for communications Brian Fallon noted in a statement that it believes "both candidates’ mics should be live throughout the full broadcast," criticizing Trump's history of interrupting his debate opponent. As of Tuesday afternoon, the Harris campaign suggested the microphone debate remains unresolved.

ABC did not say when asked via email whether an agreement had been reached and whether the microphones would be muted or live.
