The Brewers

Vintage Barrel Master

Jordan Ziegler

Jordan Ziegler is a self-made brewer who worked his way up from the canning line to the title of head brewer at a leading Los Angeles craft brewery, where he also spearheaded the sour beer program—a role that ignited his fascination with oak barrels. Jordan joined Firestone Walker in 2019, and was tasked with overseeing our spirits barrel aging program starting in 2023. “I’m very passionate about working with barrels,” he says. “Oak barrels put us in touch with our brewing roots—the lineage of our craft runs through wood, and there’s nothing like the sensory overload of a great barrel-aged beer.”

The Brewmaster

Matt Brynildson

Matt Brynildson’s nickname says it all: “Merlin.” Renowned as one of the world’s leading brewmasters, Matt has worked his magic at Firestone Walker since 2001. He has been named “Champion Brewmaster” four times at the World Beer Cup and “Brewer of the Year” six times at the Great American Beer Festival. Matt established our Vintage spirits barrel program in 2006, helping spark the revolution in barrel-aged beers with Parabola, Anniversary Ale and other iconic creations.

Barrelworks Barrel Manager

Molly Reed

Molly studied English and Psychology at UC Santa Barbara, but her fascination with fermented beverages—and wild ales in particular—led her to an unexpected calling. After working for three years at the Barrelworks tasting room, Molly moved into the production side, where she excelled under the mentorship of our barrelmeisters before ultimately taking the helm of the entire operation. “Wild ales are just so interesting, they’re the oldest and most natural form of brewing,” she says. “I love the beer club because it allows us to experiment with these small, ultra-creative batches, and then share them with our most ardent fans.”
