From the northern peaks of the Rocky Mountains all the way to the southern Chihuahuan Desert, the Intermountain Region (Department of Interior Regions 6, 7, and 8) includes 87 park units within eight states of the American West. The Intermountain Region (IMR) includes Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, and Montana. With around 10.4 million gross total acres of public land, parks in the region host over 55 million visitors annually.
The region and its parks employ around 3,450 permanent employees and 1600 seasonal employees. The regional office includes around 275 employees. Over 12,000 individuals and groups volunteer their time to support the parks and programs in the region.The regional office is headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado.
