When you think of spring break, you probably think of a big group trip. This year, though, it seems that more and more people are opting for solo adventures.

According to Airbnb’s Spring 2025 Travel Trends report, it seems that a lot of people are looking to venture off on their own right now. The Airbnb team found that there was a 90% YoY increase in solo searches. Specifically, people are focusing on “soft travel,” which is described as “slower-paced trips that prioritize leisure and wellbeing.” And the emphasis is on leisure—these travelers are opting for longer trips that average 17 nights, compared to nine nights for duo travelers and eight nights for families.

While it can a lot of fun exploring a new city with friends, family, or a partner, solo travel is equally rewarding. There’s something special and exciting about heading off on your own, doing things that you want to do and on your own time, and spending time with yourself. Plus, if you plan it right, you don’t have to feel lonely. There can be so many opportunities to make new friends on a solo trip: stay at a hostel, a social-focused hotel, or do a homestay; sit at the bar; join a tour group or book an Airbnb Experience; or just be open to new experiences and talking to people when you’re out and about (using caution and common sense, of course).
